Our group from El Perello are doing a Trojan job of fund raising. Autonomy suits them well. They had a highly lucrative coffee morning amongst other things and are now preparing for their first lunch. Good luck and thanks to them.
The Freesia Group Perelló is born!!!
The Group met for the first time on Tuesday, 31st July, 2007, at the home of Marjorie McDougle. Present were Les and Liz Ball, Yvonne Winder, Pam de Luna, Margaret Walker, Marje Clarkson and Jackie Giles.
Marjorie took the chair temporarily and explained the purpose of the Freesia Group. She quoted from the central committee’s constitution that the Freesia Group is a group of like-minded people of all nationalities interested in raising money for cancer charities in Spain, i.e. the CNIO and the AECC. She outlined how the Freesia Group was formed in 2002 and that it now needed to expand further south in the Tarragona province to promote the group and its aims.
Marjorie also explained that the new group in Perelló will not be a separate entity - it will have to adhere to the central committee’s contstitution which was adopted in March last year. She also clarified that no member can start a new group at will and that the chairperson of any new group would have to have served on the general committee for a minimum of two years.
A committee for Perelló would need to be formed who would answer to the central committee and to the many people who support the group. The roles of the committee members were explained and how important it was that any matters concerning the group be discussed openly in committee. The policy would be that no action be taken without the committee’s agreement. There should be informal meetings of interested persons willing to discuss money-raising ideas, helping to carry them out and having fun and enjoyment whilst doing so. We should not allow the group to become high powered with high maintenance.
The Freesia Group El Perelló committee members were then elected.
Chair person: Marjorie McDougle
Treasurer: Les Ball
With the committee now in place ideas for future fund raising events were discussed. It was decided that we would have initially two events within the next 12 months. The first one would be a Carol Service on Friday 14th December 2007. Many other ideas were put forward. We would also organise the White Elephant stall at the Christmas Fair in Salou on Saturday 24th November. On 28th July an impromptu Coffee Morning was held in the village to set the ball rolling. We sold home-made jams, pickles, cakes, cream scones, etc. We had a raffle, sold books, Beverley’s jewellery and crocheted jam pot covers and there was also a plant stall. The total raised was over €550.
